BACK TO PROGRAM OF WORK
Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat
FCCLA along with FBLA and FFA and Skills USA participates in our annual Trick-Or-Treat-So-Kids-Can-Eat in October. We split into small groups and go door-to-door in Waverly asking for canned donations to the local food pantry. We began this in 2012, and are now keeping the tradition. We've collected hundreds of pounds of nonperishables to give to the Waverly, Nebraska Food Pantry.
Mini-Vike Nights
FCCLA's central focus is the family. This is our primary reason for holding a Mini-Vikes night at least four times each school year. We want good, healthy relationships in each family, and give parents a night to go out, or stay in, and not worry about finding a sitter. We watch kids (usually 6 P.M. to 9 P.M.) with no fee other than donated food, if possible. Each Mini-Vikes night has a new theme, ranging from health night to St. Patrick's Day. We send out invitations for any District 145 student ages K-2.
Girls on the Run 5k
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s a . . . girl on the run!! Waverly FCCLA members hosted a new 5K run event last year to empower young girls to transform into superpower-wielding heroes by leading healthy lives. Members gave out treats, medals and did a tie-dye team building activity for the girls after the run.
Center for People in Need
Each year, FCCLA volunteers, along with other career and technical student organizations from District 145, volunteer at the Care Center for People in Need in Lincoln, Nebraska. We help hand out items to Lincoln families that cannot afford to purchase gifts for the holidays. It is always a great and humbling experience for our young leaders of Waverly High School
