The purpose for Family and Consumer Science is to educate and prepare students for Family and Consumer Science related subjects. These subject matters usually are family life, work life, and careers. Family and Consumer Science provides oppurtunities for students to prepare themselves for life after school. Knowledge in many different areas such as career research, child development, cooking, financial management, internships, and much more! These skills provide students with the knowledge to be a better citizen and family member in the future community and home that they will take part in! Family and Consumer Science education is promoted outside of school as well through FCCLA. FCCLA is related to Family and Consumer Science through its numerous community service tasks and its Students Taking Action with Recognition Events that they can comptete with on a national level. The competitions range from culinary challenge to life event planning.
